My 30-Day Fasting Journey: Transformations, Challenges, and Insights

I’ve always been curious about the potential benefits of fasting. Could it fix my chronic health issues, ramp up my focus and productivity, and maybe even help me lose a bit of weight? So, I took the plunge into a 30-day fast, and boy, were the results interesting!

Starting Off with Intermittent Fasting

Before the big 30-day challenge, I wasn’t a stranger to fasting. I’d done one-day and five-day fasts and followed a ketogenic diet for quite a while. Hydration was key, and so was my electrolyte management – lots of water and salt, folks! And yes, I even braved the not-so-delicious concoction of bone broth and juiced green veggies. Gotta do what you gotta do, right?

Actionable Tip: If you’re mulling over a prolonged fast, start small. Get your body used to the idea with shorter fasts and a supportive diet.

The Tough Parts

Mentally, it was a beast – no sugarcoating it. But hey, that was part of the challenge, right? Socializing without food was another tricky bit. Imagine hanging out with friends or having them over when you’re not eating – quite the ordeal! Then there were the physical bits: feeling tired and cold, and yep, I did lose some muscle mass. But considering I was aiming to tackle my autoimmune issues, I was willing to take the hit.

Actionable Tip: Be mentally geared up for the challenge. Find social activities that don’t center around food, and remember, it’s okay to be a bit selfish with your health goals.

The Wins

Focus-wise, I was like a hungry lion, laser-sharp and ready to pounce! This was amazing for my postgrad business school work. And my health? No immediate miracles, but the continuous practice of 5-day fasts each month post the 30-day stint has been a game changer. Healthier, less medication – it’s been incredible. Weight loss? Absolutely! I dropped from about 80 kg down to 62 kg. Didn’t fit into my UK size 10 shorts at first, but by the end, they were pretty comfy!

Actionable Tip: Record your journey visually. It’s a fantastic way to track progress, especially when it’s not instantly noticeable.

Patience and Resilience for the Win

The biggest takeaway? Discovering my own patience and resilience. Fasting taught me that I can stick it out through tough times, a skill so underrated in our instant-gratification world. And for someone ambitious and business-minded, that’s golden.

Actionable Tip: Challenge yourself regularly. It builds patience and resilience, essential for personal and professional growth.

Would I Go for Round Two?

As of now, I’m sticking to my 5-day fasts. Another 30-day fast? Maybe in the future, if there’s a strong enough why. But for now, the regular short fasts are challenging enough.

Wrapping Up

This 30-day fasting journey wasn’t just about shedding pounds; it was a holistic transformation and a testament to what we can achieve with discipline and determination.
